Three injured in Saturday UTV accident

Three women were transported to the hospital, including one that was airlifted, after the UTV they were operating rolled over on Saturday in Rose Creek.

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, Mower County deputies responded to a report of a UTV accident at about 8:28 p.m. on July 4 near 60081 170th St. in Rose Creek. The accident involved the UTV rolling over in a field into a grove of trees.

The accident was reported by a group of ATV riders who noticed one of the women waving her arms in their direction. They found two of the women pinned beneath the UTV and helped get it off of them before calling 911.

The Rose Creek Fire Department, Adams Ambulance and Mayo Ambulance also responded to the scene.

May said it appeared that the UTV was traveling south on the field edge, where the driver’s side tire caught a rut, lost control and slid on the grass towards the tree line, where it made impact with a tree. He indicated the vehicle may have spun around and hit another tree, at which point it rolled onto its side, pinning the two women.

All three women sustained injuries from the accident. Mariah Weiss, 18, of Grand Meadow and Jenna Bentzin, 18, of Rose Creek were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin by Mayo Ambulance while the third woman, Kassidy Kirtz, 19, of Adams was airlifted to the hospital by Mayo One.

May said the extent of their injuries are unknown.
