Damage reported after Tuesday evening storm

A Tuesday evening storm that produced heavy rain, high winds, and possible tornado activity wreaked havoc throughout Mower County.

According to Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik, Mower County deputies and Austin firefighters responded to a report of an overturned semi-tractor trailer at about 7:05 p.m. in the area of Highway 218 and 275th Street in rural Lansing. First responders observed a semi-tractor trailer on its side in the ditch.

The driver was uninjured during the incident. He reported he believed the semi and trailer had been lifted by the wind/suspected tornado and dropped on its side in the ditch.

At about 7:49 p.m., deputies responded to a report of water over the road on County Road 20 near the intersection of Interstate 90 in Dexter Township. Deputies provided traffic control until the waters receded. No damage was reported.

A report of a tree down across the road laying partially on power lines was called in at about 8:20 p.m. Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services responded and removed the tree. No other damage was reported in the immediate area.

Mower County deputies, along with the Lyle Police and Fire Departments, responded to a call of a transformer on fire, possibly from a lightning strike, at about 8:56 p.m. in the 100 block of Pershing Avenue in Lyle. No damage to other structures was reported or observed and power was restored to the City of Lyle a short time later.
