Bullet holes found in residence after Thursday morning shooting

The Austin Police Department is looking for suspects after bullet holes were found in a Southeast Austin residence after a report of gunshots.

According to Austin Police Chief David McKichan, Austin police officers and Mower County deputies responded to a report of gunshots at about 5:02 a.m. on Thursday in the 800 and 900 block of Sixth Avenue Southeast. No activity was ongoing when officers arrived. Officers made contact with residents of a home in the 900 block. The residents informed officers that shots had entered their residence.

A 27-year-old male, a 27-year-old female, a 9-year-old female and a 3-year-old male occupied the house at the time of the incident. None of them were harmed.

Police located six bullet holes in the side of the home. Six millimeter shell casings were found in a yard in the 700 block of Eighth Street Southeast.

A witness reported seeing two subjects running through the area at the time of the shooting and leaving in a vehicle described as a white or silver SUV. The subjects were described as tall and skinny and wearing blue jeans. One was wearing a light blue sweatshirt while the other was wearing an orange sweatshirt. Both had their hoods up and the witness was unable to provide any more physical descriptors.

The homeowners said they knew of no one who would target them. There are no suspects at this time.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mower County Law Enforcement Center at 507-437-9400. Reports can be made anonymously.
