2019 through the lens: Eric Johnson picks his favorite images this past year

It’s amazing how a year in review can remind you of a moment, especially when you are a photographer for a small daily newspaper.

After doing this job for so many years, the photos a photographer takes stop becoming only about the moment, but instead start to tell the story of why you took the photo in the first place.

The moment becomes memory and in a lot of ways the memory can be more striking than the image and so with that in mind I present the top photos I enjoyed taking in 2019.

Sometimes it’s worth it to take one last look when leaving an assignment. I was leaving the Great Frontier Bullriding show at the Mower County Fair when this event started taking shape between rounds. Rick Loucks went end over end during a very different kind of race.
